The new Mossberg 940 Pro Tactical is based on the same chassis as the other 940 models and comes chambered in 12GA. It employs the same updated, clean-running gas-operating system as the other 940 Pro shotgun models, allowing it to fire up to 1500 rounds between cleanings. However, Mossberg has included some additional features. The receiver cuts, first and foremost, enable the direct installation of low-profile micro-dot sights (Shield RMSc footprint). When no optic is mounted, a cover plate and the receiver is drilled and tapped for the addition of rail-mounted optics. Also noteworthy are oversized controls, M-LOK compatibility, stock adjustability, and an 18.5-inch barrel with a replaceable choke system. Internal parts are corrosion-resistant; the gas piston, magazine tube, hammer, and sear are nickel boron-coated for further longevity. The gas system, according to Mossberg, is compatible with factory-manufactured 2.75 and 3-inch shotshells and delivers faster, more dependable cycling. The matte-finished barrel is threaded for replaceable AccuChoke choke tubes, and the rifle includes a Cylinder choke tube. A fiber optic front sight is included with the shotgun. The loading port has been widened and beveled, and an elongated, pinch-free elevator with a bright orange anodized follower has been added. The knurled charging handle has been expanded to improve operation, and the bolt release lever has been larger and ergonomically enhanced. The capacity with 2.75-inch ammunition is 7+1 thanks to the longer magazine tube. The barrel clamp has a sling swivel stud as well as dual-sided M-LOK compatible slots for attaching standard tactical equipment like lasers and lights. The synthetic stock’s length-of-pull is adjustable from 12.5 to 14.25 inches. Drop at the comb and cast can be altered with incremental stock shims. The synthetic forend is sleek. Mossberg’s distinctive features include aggressive texturing for a solid grip and a black matte finish on both the stock and forend. The 12-ga 940 Pro Tactical is designed for tactical and defensive use, with significant features of durability, ease of use, and functionality.
